Overview
300-year-old tradition of being buried in geothermally heated black sand on a volcanic beach.
A one-of-a-kind natural spa experience where attendants bury you in naturally heated volcanic sand on the beach. Underground geothermal springs warm the black sand to around 50-55°C, and lying beneath the warm weight for 10-15 minutes produces intense perspiration said to have three times the detoxifying effect of a regular hot spring bath. The beachside setting with views of Kinko Bay makes this unlike any other onsen experience in Japan.
