Overview
Dramatic northernmost tip of Okinawa's main island.
Cape Hedo sits at the northernmost tip of Okinawa Island, where the Pacific Ocean meets the East China Sea. Geologists date the rocky formations here to around 250 million years ago, making this terrain significantly older than the rest of the island. In Ryukyuan mythology, this cape is considered the birthplace of the entire kingdom. On clear days you can see Yoron Island to the north. The observation area is open and windswept, with views in both directions across the water. A large observation tower for the Yambaru kuina bird stands visible through the trees.
