鹿野城下町
Preserved 1580s castle town with defensive street layouts, cherry-lined ruins, and autumn maples.
A remarkably preserved castle town from the 1580s with L-shaped and T-shaped defensive streets lined with Kyoto-style wooden houses. Lord Kamei Korenori, who traded with Siam, modernized the town and planted 500 cherry trees around the castle ruins on its 148-meter hilltop. The autumn display of 600 maple trees along the southern mountain path is equally spectacular.
