Overview

The spiritual heart of the Kumano Kodo, known for its austere architecture and massive torii gate.

The head shrine of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes, surrounded by deep mountain forests. Its austere, bark-roofed pavilions exude a powerful, ancient spirituality. A short walk away stands Oyunohara, the shrine's original site, marked by Japan's largest torii gate.
