Cape where 100 feral Misaki horses roam freely, abandoned by samurai 300 years ago on Pacific cliffs.

Around 100 Misaki-uma, a native Japanese horse breed designated as a National Natural Monument, roam freely on the grassy cape jutting into the Pacific at Miyazaki's southern tip. Abandoned by samurai some 300 years ago, the horses turned feral and now graze undisturbed alongside a chalk-white lighthouse open to visitors. The clifftop views extend across open ocean, and the access road winds through subtropical coastal forest.
