Yahiko Shrine

Niigata's most sacred Shinto shrine traces its history back 2,400 years to when it enshrined a deity who taught the people agriculture and fishing. The imposing vermilion gate and cedar-forested approach create an atmosphere of ancient reverence, while the adjacent Mount Yahiko offers hiking trails and ropeway access to panoramic views. The shrine's autumn chrysanthemum festival fills the grounds with spectacular floral displays.
