Overview
Pre-Shuri royal castle and site of a fierce WWII battle.
Before Shuri, this was the royal capital. The stone walls are impressive, but it is also internationally known as 'Hacksaw Ridge,' the site of Desmond Doss's heroism during the Battle of Okinawa. The view from the ridge over the island is commanding.
