Unosaki Coast
beach
鵜ノ崎海岸
Known as 'Akita's Uyuni Salt Flats', a shallow tidal beach that creates mirror-like reflections of the sky at low tide.
Unosaki Coast on the southern shore of the Oga Peninsula features an extremely flat, shallow tidal zone where thin sheets of water create stunning mirror reflections of the sky and clouds, earning it comparisons to Bolivia's Uyuni Salt Flats. At low tide, you can walk far out onto the reflective surface for surreal photographs. The coast also has interesting flat rock formations and tide pools, and the western orientation provides spectacular sunsets over the Sea of Japan.
Check tide tables and visit at low tide on a calm, clear day. The mirror effect is strongest when there is minimal wind. Wear shoes you don't mind getting wet and walk out to the flat rock shelf.
