In Arita, a town famous around the world for fine ceramics. The museum has accumulated ceramics and porcelain from every corner of Kyushu with a focus on local Hizen porcelain. The permanent exhibitions explore the character and history of Kyushu ceramics, and introduce the work of modern-day artisans. On an outer wall of the building are 25 large ceramic bells given to the museum by the German city of Meissen, the sister city of the town of Arita. You can hear their clear notes ring out every hour.
