たまて箱温泉

4.6Est. 90Ibusuki, Kyushu

Overview

Trip Advisor's 2017 Best Day Trip Spa in Kyushu, temporarily closed June 2024 to April 2025.

Tamatebako Onsen in Ibusuki offers two open-air baths with contrasting views: the Japanese-style rotenburo looks toward Mt. Kaimon and the East China Sea, while the western-style bath faces Mt. Takeyama, locally called 'Snoopy Mountain' for its profile. The sodium-chloride-rich water is said to help with joint pain and general fatigue. The two baths rotate between men and women on even and odd dates of the month, so both sides are accessible across a stay. Check ahead regarding current operating status as the facility has had periods of closure for construction.

Local tips

Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
