Tropical botanical gardens with over 1,300 plant varieties from around the world, featuring a lake, buffalo and birds.
Southeast Botanical Gardens in Okinawa City has been growing for over 50 years and now holds more than 1,300 plant varieties from Okinawa and tropical regions worldwide. Themed areas include a palm garden, flowering tree garden, herb section, and a water lily pond where water buffalo graze nearby. Tropical birds and small animals in a petting area make it a practical stop for families. Different plants bloom across the seasons, and evening illumination events run periodically. A cafe and restaurant on-site use local ingredients, and the gift shop carries plant-related items alongside Okinawan crafts.
