Sojiji Soin Temple
temple
總持寺祖院
Former head temple of Soto Zen on the remote Noto coast, with open meditation and temple stays.
Originally the head temple of the Soto Zen sect before its headquarters moved to Yokohama in 1911, this remote Noto Peninsula complex retains the grandeur of its 700-year legacy. The approach passes through massive wooden gates into a compound of meditation halls and moss gardens. Zen training sessions are open to visitors, and the temple lodging offers overnight stays with shojin ryori vegetarian meals.
