A coastal cycling and train route where the tracks run right along the beach and sunsets paint the Inland Sea gold.
This stretch of coast southwest of Matsuyama is named for its legendary sunsets. The JR Yosan Line runs directly along the shore here, and the seaside cycling path offers unobstructed views. Shimonada Station, one of Japan's closest stations to the sea, has the tracks mere meters from the waves.
Local tips
Take the Iyonada Monogatari sightseeing train which stops at Shimonada for photo ops. Or just ride a regular local train for 200 yen.
