Local PickA distinctive place, off the usual route.
Overview
A 60-meter waterfall cascading down a massive V-shaped granite cliff face in Yakushima's interior.
While most Yakushima visitors head to Shiratani Unsuikyo and Jomon Sugi, Senpiro Falls on the island's south coast is equally dramatic and far less crowded. The falls drop 60m over a vast granite wall, and the viewing platform offers the full scope of the rock face. After rain, the volume is spectacular.
Local tips
Visit after rain when the volume increases dramatically. The road to the viewing point is narrow — go early to avoid tour buses.
