Overview
1442 National Treasure pagoda ranked among Japan's three finest, in the 'Kyoto of the West.'
One of Japan's three greatest pagodas alongside Horyuji and Daigoji, this 31-meter National Treasure was built in 1442 with cypress bark roofs held by bamboo nails. Set in Kozan Park with a reflecting pond, the pagoda is particularly photogenic at night when illuminated, or in spring surrounded by cherry blossoms.
