Okunoshima (Rabbit Island)
大久野島
4.6Est. 180Takehara, Chugoku
Overview
An island overrun by wild rabbits with a dark history.
While increasingly famous, it is still an adventure to reach. The island is inhabited by hundreds of tame, wild rabbits. It also houses the ruins of a former poison gas factory from WWII, creating a unique juxtaposition of 'kawaii' animal encounters and somber historical ruins.
