Okhotsk Tokkari Center (Seal Land)

This small, friendly rescue facility in Monbetsu houses several species of seals native to the Sea of Okhotsk, including spotted seals and ringed seals. "Tokkari" is the Ainu word for seal, and the center doubles as a rehabilitation hospital for injured or orphaned animals. You can watch feeding times (check the schedule at the entrance) and get surprisingly close to the seals in both indoor tanks and outdoor pools. It's a genuine conservation operation rather than a flashy attraction, charming and educational, especially for families.
