Overview
Japan's oldest stone arch bridge whose reflection creates a perfect 'spectacles' shape in the Nakashima River.
Built in 1634 by a Chinese monk, this double-arch stone bridge is Japan's oldest and most elegant. When the water is still, the arches and their reflection form a perfect pair of spectacles. The surrounding canal banks have a hidden heart-shaped stone embedded in the wall, finding it is said to bring love.
Local tips
Search the riverbank stones for the hidden heart-shaped stone. It's on the left bank about 20m downstream. Finding it is said to bring love luck.
