Deep in the mountains south of Nara, Muroji earned its 'Women's Koya' name for historically admitting women. The grounds are surrounded by a lush forest that changes with the season, from cherry blossoms to maple leaves. Look for the shoe rack at the entrance to each hall; you'll be removing yours.
