Murakamiya Mochi Ten

Murakamiya has made mochi in Sendai since the Meiji era, and their zunda mochi is the reference version of this Tohoku specialty. Zunda paste is made from steamed and mashed edamame beans sweetened lightly with sugar, giving it a fresh, grassy flavor that is entirely unlike sweet red bean paste. It comes spread over soft pounded rice cakes. The shop has a small eat-in counter as well as packaged mochi to carry home. Located near Sendai Station, it makes a practical last stop before departing the city.
