The entire mountain serves as a sacred site and the northern gateway to the Shugendo pilgrimage routes. It is famously covered in over thirty thousand cherry trees originally planted by worshippers as offerings. The mountain ridge is lined with historic temples, shrines, and traditional inns.

Local tips

The mountain is divided into four main altitude zones; visit the upper Kami Senbon area for the most sweeping, uncrowded views over the valley.
