Local Pick
Overview
A family-run Omi beef specialist serving Japan's oldest branded wagyu at a fraction of Kobe beef prices.
Omi beef has a 400-year pedigree, the oldest branded wagyu in Japan, yet it remains far less known internationally than Kobe or Matsuzaka beef. Marutake sources directly from local farms in Shiga Prefecture and serves beautifully marbled steaks, sukiyaki, and shabu-shabu in a traditional setting. The quality rivals top-tier Kobe beef at roughly half the price.
Local tips
Order the lunch set for the best value. The Omi beef steak lunch gives you premium marbled beef with rice and sides for around 5,000 yen.
