黒岳
1,984-meter peak on the eastern rim of the Daisetsuzan caldera, the standard one-hour hike from the top of the Sounkyo ropeway-and-chairlift system.
Mt. Kurodake is the easternmost of the high peaks in Daisetsuzan National Park and the most accessible summit in Hokkaido for non-overnight hikers. The Sounkyo ropeway plus a chairlift puts walkers at 1,520 meters; from there it's about an hour up to the 1,984-meter summit on a marked trail. The peak gives a panorama across the central Daisetsuzan calderas: Mt. Hokuchin, Mt. Asahidake, and the Ohachidaira crater. Hiking season is June through early October.
