Kotohiragu
shrine
金刀比羅宮
Located halfway up Mount Zōzu, this Shinto shrine is associated with sailors & ship transport.
Perched partway up sacred Mount Zozu, this ancient shrine dedicated to maritime safety has drawn pilgrims climbing its 785 stone steps for centuries. Sailors and fishermen have long sought blessings here, and votive offerings of ship models line the halls. The ascent passes through cedar forests and souvenir shops, with the main hall offering panoramic views over the Sanuki Plain to the Seto Inland Sea.
Purify your hands at the temizuya before approaching the main hall. Left hand first, then right, then pour water into your left hand to rinse your mouth.
