Overview
Austere mountain shrine marking the entrance to the rugged Okugake ascetic trail.
Located at the highest reaches of the Yoshino mountain trail, marking the entrance to the rigorous Okugake pilgrimage route. Surrounded by dense cedar forests, it is a deeply ascetic environment. Minamoto no Yoshitsune famously hid in the nearby tower during his flight from his brother.
Local tips
Look for the Yoshitsune Kakure-to (hiding tower) path adjacent to the shrine to see where the tragic hero sought refuge.
