城崎温泉 一の湯
Historic bathhouse featuring a unique cave bath carved into the natural rock.
Ichino-yu, meaning 'Number One Bath', earned its name after a renowned Edo-period doctor declared it the best in the country. The landmark building features a distinct peach-shaped roof and a facade reminiscent of a traditional theater. Its most famous feature is the 'Dokutsu-furo' or cave bath, an indoor/outdoor hybrid carved into a cliffside that creates a natural, intimate atmosphere. Located in the heart of the town near the willow-lined canal, it is a staple for anyone visiting the area. Like all seven public baths in Kinosaki, it welcomes guests with tattoos of any size, reflecting the town's commitment to accessibility and traditional community bathing culture.
Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
