Overview
A mossy riverside path lined with dozens of mysterious Jizo statues whose number seems to change with each count.
Formed by an ancient eruption of Mt. Nantai, this gorge along the Daiya River features a peaceful walking path past roughly 70 stone Jizo statues wearing red knitted caps. Legend says the statues cannot be counted consistently, you'll get a different number each time, earning them the nickname 'Bake Jizo' (ghost Jizo). The surrounding forest and rushing water create a deeply atmospheric setting.
Local tips
Walk the path twice and actually try to count the Jizo. It's surprisingly hard, and the legend about getting a different number truly holds up.
