Overview
Huge sand sculpture of an Edo period coin, viewable from a hilltop observatory in Kotohiki Park.
Sand sculpture 122 meters across depicting a Kan'ei Tsuho coin from the Edo period, carved into the beach sands of Kanonji and maintained by the local community since 1633. It is best viewed from the observation platform atop Kotohiki Park, where the full circular design becomes visible against the beach below. Local legend holds that anyone who sees the coin will never want for money. The park is a pleasant hillside green space with walking trails and shrine grounds, and the sand sculpture is lit up during evening illumination events when it glows against the darkening shoreline.
