Toyama Glass Art Museum
富山ガラス工房
Overview
Contemporary glass sculptures & installations, plus a permanent exhibition of Dale Chihuly's works.
Striking cultural landmark designed by architect Kengo Kuma, whose signature layered-wood aesthetic wraps the building in an undulating facade of cedar, glass, and aluminum. Inside, the permanent collection features a spectacular installation by Dale Chihuly, whose blown-glass sculptures cascade from ceilings and fill entire rooms with swirling, organic forms in vivid colors. Rotating exhibitions showcase contemporary glass artists from Japan and around the world, highlighting Toyama's identity as a glass-making city. The museum is integrated into the Toyama Kirari complex, which also houses a public library with a dramatic atrium, making the building itself as much of an attraction as the art within.
