Overview
A seaside rotenburo where you soak in volcanic hot water while watching Sakurajima erupt across the bay.
This public onsen south of Kagoshima city has outdoor baths directly facing Sakurajima volcano across Kinko Bay. The combination of volcanic hot spring water and the view of an active volcano steaming across the water is unique in Japan. The sunset timing, when the sky turns orange behind the volcano, is particularly special.
Local tips
The rotenburo faces west. Time your visit for 30 minutes before sunset. Bring your own towel to save 100 yen rental fee.
