The former Kawakami family residence in Nagaoka's Settaya district was converted into a branch of sweets shop Eguchi Dango in 2022. Built in 1916 with zelkova wood and facing a dry landscape garden, the Meiji-era home now serves tea and traditional confections. Original architectural details remain, including carved transoms, a stone circular driveway, and a zelkova-wood corridor. The shop specializes in sasa dango, steamed mugwort mochi with red bean filling wrapped in bamboo leaves, and incorporates local sake, soy sauce, and miso from the Settaya area into various sweets. Open daily except Tuesdays.
