Daio Wasabi Farm
landmark
大王わさび農場
15-hectare wasabi farm in Azumino with explorable grounds, great excursion from Matsumoto to learn about condiment.
Daio Wasabi Farm stretches across 15 hectares of spring-fed fields in the Azumino area, making it one of the largest wasabi operations in Japan. Crystal-clear snowmelt water from the Northern Alps feeds the wasabi beds year-round, and you can stroll along raised walkways to see the plants at various stages of growth. The on-site cafe and food stalls let you sample wasabi in every form imaginable, from wasabi soft serve and wasabi beer to wasabi-topped rice bowls. The grounds also include picturesque water mills, a clear river where you can take slow boat rides, and views across to the alpine peaks, so it works as much as a scenic park as an agricultural attraction.
