Maeda Point Blue Cave
青の洞窟
Overview
You won't find better diving on Okinawa than this famous blue grotto where sunlight illuminates crystal-clear waters.
The Blue Cave at Maeda Point on Okinawa's Onna coast is a partially submerged sea cave about 30 meters deep, where sunlight enters through the opening and refracts off the white sandy floor to fill the water with an intense electric blue glow. The effect is strongest on clear mornings when the sun angle is right. Numerous operators run guided snorkeling and diving trips, and the cave is genuinely accessible for beginners. The surrounding water hosts tropical fish, sea cucumbers, and occasional sea turtles. Entry is by swimming from the steps at Maeda Point or by boat. Water depth inside ranges from 5 to 10 meters, and visibility on calm days is excellent.
