Asuwa River Cherry Blossom Path
landmark
足羽川桜並木
One of Japan’s Top 100 Sakura spots, featuring a 2.2 km tunnel of cherry trees.
A 2.2-kilometer path follows the Asuwa River through central Fukui City, lined with around 600 Somei Yoshino cherry trees planted in the 1950s by local citizens as a symbol of the city's recovery after World War II and the 1948 earthquake. At peak bloom in early April, the trees form a dense pink canopy over the path, and evening illumination reflects in the river below. The Fukui Spring Festival coincides with the bloom and sometimes includes the Echizen Era Parade, with participants in period costumes. Nearby Asuwayama Park adds another 3,500 trees to the viewing area.
