A 40-minute bus ride from Kanazawa Station leads to a wooded valley that feels much more remote. Daytrippers can use the public bathhouse, or you can stay at one of the nine small ryokan for seasonal meals. The draw in winter is snowshoeing; in autumn, it's forest walks in the surrounding hills.

Local tips

Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
