Seven different hot springs supply the inns and homes of this compact village, and over 30 accommodations make it a practical base for exploring the area. The thatched-roof station building functions as both transit hub and community gathering point, with a sunken hearth that draws residents and visitors together in winter. A free outdoor foot bath sits just outside. Cherry blossoms make the station area a popular stop in spring.
Local tips
Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
