Yunohira
湯平温泉
Overview
Onsen district in Kagoshima where natural hot springs emerge along forested slopes, far from tourist crowds.
Small hot spring village on the slopes of Mount Kirishima in Kagoshima, with a cluster of ryokan and bathhouses fed by sulfurous waters rising from the volcanic ground below. The setting is high enough that views open over the caldera landscape and, on clear days, down toward Kagoshima Bay. Several of the outdoor baths face directly toward the mountain ridgeline, making it possible to soak while watching the steam rising from active fumaroles nearby. The sulfur smell is noticeable but light here compared to higher vents on the mountain. Yunohira is smaller and less visited than the main Kirishima resort areas, giving it a quieter character on most days.
