Yumori Hot Spring and Hotel Suginoyu

湯盛温泉とホテル杉の湯
Yumori Hot Spring is a relatively new riverside hot spring with a long history.
When Hotel Suginoyu was being built in 1988, town planners found old records mentioning a cedar tree known as Yumori Sugi near a spring once used for cooking and medicine. The construction team excavated until they found the buried water source, and the spring has been flowing ever since. Today the cold bicarbonate spring water fills baths made of natural stone, hinoki cypress, and 300-year-old Japanese umbrella pine. The outdoor baths overlook a gorge. In summer the hotel runs a sweetfish (ayu) dinner course using fish caught individually by staff. Guest rooms are fitted with Yoshino cedar throughout.
Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
