Yuga Shrine and Nishino Inari Shrine
由加神社と西の稲荷宮
Overview
These neighboring shrines in the northern part of the garden were worshipped by the daimyo lords of the Ikeda family.
These two small shrines in the northern section of Korakuen Garden were used by the Ikeda daimyo lords. Nishino Inari Shrine has been on the grounds since 1786, and Yuga Shrine was relocated here in 1872 from the Ikeda residence in Tokyo, where it had stood since 1840. Beyond the stone torii gate, a wooden worship hall faces a cypress-bark roofed sanctuary. During the tenure of Ikeda Narimasa in the early 1800s, a festival was held inviting residents of the castle town into the garden to visit the Inari Shrine. Records suggest tens of thousands of people attended, which gives a sense of how central the garden once was to the city's public life.
