Yufuin Showa-kan
museum
湯布院昭和館
Showa-era (1930s-1960s) Japanese pop-culture museum, recreated streetscape of mid-century Yufuin shops.
A small museum recreating the Showa-era (1930s-1960s) streetscape of Yufuin's central village, with vintage shops, schoolroom, barbershop, and a working dagashi (penny candy) store inside the recreation. The exhibits go heavy on mid-century print advertising, baseball cards, and pre-1970 manga first editions. The recreated dagashi shop sells real candies at modern prices but in vintage packaging.
Entry 1,200 yen. Closed Tuesdays. Children genuinely engage with the dagashi shop; adult Showa nostalgia tourists tend to spend most time in the schoolroom and barbershop.
