The Yugawa River flows out of Lake Yunoko, cascades down Yudaki Falls, continues south through Senjōgahara, and eventually drains into Lake Chūzenji.
The Yugawa River exits Lake Yunoko and drops seventy meters over Yudaki Falls, a wide cascade with an observation deck at the base for close views of the rushing water. Below the falls, the river continues south through Senjogahara, a vast marshland covering over 400 hectares, now protected under the Ramsar Convention. The name Senjogahara means battlefield plain, referencing a myth about a war between centipede and snake armies. Thousands of years ago this was a lake; volcanic debris gradually filled it in. A raised wooden boardwalk is the only permitted route through, keeping foot traffic from disturbing the wetland ecosystem.
