Overview
Hollow lava caves formed by ancient eruptions, historically used for spiritual rebirth.
A fascinating geological formation created when Mount Fuji's lava engulfed a forest, leaving hollow tree-shaped caves. These dark, narrow tunnels were used by Fuji-ko pilgrims for spiritual rebirth rituals. Access inside is restricted to preserve the site, but the surrounding forested area is profoundly atmospheric.
Local tips
The interior is only open to the public one day a year in late April, but the hiking trail leading to the site is beautiful year-round.
