Yoshida Castle

Yoshida Castle in Toyohashi was never fully completed, which gives the site a somewhat different character from most castle ruins. Construction began in the late 15th century and the castle changed hands repeatedly through the Sengoku period, eventually becoming the seat of the local domain under the Tokugawa order. A reconstructed corner turret marks the original keep location inside what is now Yoshida Park, and a small museum in the park covers the castle's history and the local domain. The park sits at the edge of the Toyo River, and the stone foundation walls along the riverside give a clear sense of the original defensive design. Cherry blossoms line the park path in spring.
