Overview
Limestone gorge where botanist Makino discovered species, with Heike warrior legend caves.
A rugged limestone gorge on Mount Yokogura where the botanist Tomitaro Makino discovered several plant species in the 19th century. The trail passes through primeval forest to a sacred cliff called Heike Cavern, where legends say fleeing Heike warriors hid after their defeat in 1185, and rare ferns cling to the damp rock walls.
