石見銀山代官所同心遺宅柳原家
The Yanagihara House is among the most modest samurai residences in the town of Omori.
The Yanagihara House in the old mining town of Omori gives a clear picture of modest samurai life in the early nineteenth century. It was home to a doshin, a low-ranking official roughly equivalent to a police inspector, who monitored checkpoints controlling movement in and out of the Iwami Ginzan silver mining zone. The house was rebuilt after a fire in 1800 and, while simple, retains the small fire-resistant storehouse considered essential for a samurai household. The garden extends to the fence line, where a rental annex once stood. Note that the building is not open to visitors but can be viewed from outside.
