Yame Tea Fields

The mountainous Yame region produces some of Japan's most highly graded gyokuro, cultivated under traditional straw covers that intensify umami. The central tea plantation sprawls across hillsides with views of the Chikugo valley. Saryou Chiyonoen cafe, run by a family tea producer, serves organic teas alongside wild-vegetable dishes and rice from local terraced paddies.
