Yamatoya Honten Restaurant

Yamatoya Honten is one of Matsuyama's oldest and most respected ryokan, and their kaiseki lunch service opens the dining room to visitors who are not staying overnight. The seasonal courses change monthly and draw on Ehime's fishing boats, mountain farms, and citrus groves for ingredients. Sitting in a formal tatami room with garden views while working through five or six careful courses takes about two hours. Book at least a few days ahead as lunch seats are limited and the experience is well known among Matsuyama residents.
