Overview

Yokohama's seaside promenade stretching from Chinatown to the harbor, lined with rose gardens and harbor view benches.

Yamashita Park opened in 1930 on land reclaimed from the sea after the Great Kanto Earthquake, built partly as a recovery project for the city. The park runs along the Yokohama waterfront, with wide lawns, seasonal flower beds, and the retired ocean liner Hikawa Maru docked permanently at the pier as a museum ship. Stone monuments and fountains are scattered through the grounds, and in late winter plum blossoms appear in a section of the park near the Yamashita Pier. The park is a popular promenade any time of day, and the nearby China Town district is a short walk from the south entrance.
