山鹿灯籠民芸館
Handmade washi-paper lanterns with no frame or wire, worn during Yamaga's summer night dance festival.
Houses the intricate paper lanterns that are Yamaga's cultural signature, headpieces worn by hundreds of women during the August Toro Matsuri, when dancers in white yukata and red obi sway through the night streets. Each lantern is made entirely of washi paper and glue, without any wire or wood frame, using techniques passed down for centuries. Visitors can try folding miniature versions in workshops.
