Yabuhan Soba

Historic soba restaurant in a beautifully preserved merchant house, loved by locals.
Yabuhan occupies a beautifully preserved wooden merchant house in Otaru, built during the city's canal-era trading boom in the Meiji period. Inside, low ceilings, dark timber beams, and paper lanterns frame the room without feeling staged. The soba itself is straightforward: cold zaru or warm kake, made from buckwheat with that faintly nutty flavor that distinguishes good handmade noodles. It is the kind of place where the setting and the food reinforce each other, turning a simple lunch into something more quietly memorable.
